Tip of the Month

Laughter is a powerful remedy for stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works quicker to
bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humour helps lighten
the burden, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded. It also helps you release
anger and makes it easier to forgive.

The ability to laugh easily and frequently is a fabulous resource for overcoming
problems, enhancing relationships and supporting both physical and emotional health.
Best of all, this type of healing is fun, free, and easy to use.

There are several ways that laughter is good for your health:

Laughter relaxes the whole body. A hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress,
resulting in relaxed muscles for up to 45 minutes after.

Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and
increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance
to disease.

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s natural feel-
good chemicals. They promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily
relieve pain.

Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and
increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other
cardiovascular problems.

Laughter burns calories. It’s certainly no replacement for the gym, but studies show
that laughing for 10 to 15 minutes can burn approximately 40 calories.

Laughter shifts perspective. This shift in perspective creates psychological distance
from a stressor, helping you avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Invite humour into your life! Allow laughter to take you to a higher place where you can
view the world from a more relaxed, positive, and blissful perspective.
