Dealing with Back Pain
Struggling with back pain? Many people believe back pain to be a part of life and endure years of suffering without ever discovering the actual cause of their pain. Luckily, there are treatments and therapies that can help even chronic back sufferers regain their quality of life.
Back pain can be caused by a number of factors including repetitive injuries (i.e. keyboarding), trauma (i.e. car accidents), poor biomechanics (sitting at a desk for long periods of time, carrying a wallet in the back pocket), and underlying medical conditions. It can also be caused by herniated discs (resulting from a fall or collision), referred pain from hips, ankles, and feet, and mechanical pain such as pulled muscles resulting from bending, lifting, improper posture, etc.
Individuals suffering from acute or chronic back pain can experience relief through services provided by an allied health professional. Active Release Technique® (ART) therapy and chiropractic services are part of a profession dedicated to the non-surgical treatment of disorders of the nervous system and/or musculoskeletal system. ART® therapy is also widely recognized and successfully implemented in the sporting community. It has benefitted such athletes as Peyton Manning, Gary Roberts, and Donovan Bailey.
ART® therapy is a proven and drug-free alternative using hands-on techniques to address issues in the soft tissues of the body including the muscles, ligaments, fascia, and nerves without the use of invasive surgery or addictive medications. ART® therapy allows allied health professionals to break up restrictive adhesions, reinstate normal tissue flexibility, and movement, and help restore flexibility, balance, and stability to the injured area and the kinetic chain.
Several medical studies have concluded that manual therapies like ART® used by allied health professionals are generally effective for the treatment of back pain as well as for the treatment of neck pain, among other conditions. It also allows practitioners the opportunity to further assess and correct problems in other areas of the kinetic chain in addition to the pain site itself.
The core of chiropractic treatment typically involves treatment of common lower back pain conditions though hands-on therapy including spinal manipulation, manual manipulation, and mobilization techniques.
